Trace Element Blends

Trace elements make up only a fraction of a fermentation medium, yet they have a strong influence on growth, yield and process robustness. Sourced as single salts, they become an execution problem: every element carries its own specification, packaging, storage and quality requirements, and every batch has to be weighed and mixed in-house. A blend replaces that with one specified input — one order, one CoA, one contact, and the same composition from first trials to industrial scale.

Data-driven blend optimisation

For fermentation processes without an established trace element composition, FermBase offers data-driven trace element blend optimisation. We optimise trace element formulations in partnership with Differential Bio, a biotech start-up from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) ecosystem, which runs automated fermentation experiments and evaluates the results using machine learning. FermBase handles sourcing, grade selection, development, production and supply. The result is one optimised blend, supplied by one partner from first trials to industrial scale.
